Terms & refunds
The deal between us, in plain words. If anything here reads as a trick, it isn't one — email us and we'll fix the wording.
What dwell is
dwell is a place to keep your house's records: spaces, items, paint colors, photos, documents, contractors, and notes. You own what you put in it. We store it and hand it back whenever you ask.
Your account
You need a working email address and a password of at least 8 characters. Keep the password to yourself — anyone who has it can see your house. Tell us at hello@dwellthehouseledger.com if you think someone else got in, and change your password: doing so signs out every other browser and phone immediately.
One person, one account. You can invite your household to share your house — that's the point — but don't share a single login around.
Plans and prices
- Free — one house, with limits on items, documents, and AI features. Free accounts stay free; we won't start charging you for something that used to be free without telling you first.
- dwell+ — $7.99 per month, or $49.99 per year (that's $4.17 a month). Up to three houses, unlimited items and documents, household sharing, and the AI features.
Prices include no hidden fees. If we ever raise the price, your existing subscription keeps its price until you cancel it.
Billing
Payments are handled by Stripe. Your card details go to Stripe and never touch our servers. Subscriptions renew automatically — monthly plans each month, annual plans each year — until you cancel.
Cancel anytime from Settings → dwell+ → billing portal. Cancelling stops the next renewal and keeps your dwell+ features running through the end of the period you already paid for. Nothing is deleted when a subscription ends: your house stays, and the free-plan limits apply again.
Refunds
There are no automatic refunds, and nothing on the site issues one on its own — a refund is always a person deciding. Here's what that person does:
- Annual plans: email us within 30 days of the charge and we'll refund it in full, no reason needed.
- Monthly plans: email us within 7 days of a charge you didn't intend — an accidental renewal, a plan you forgot to cancel — and we'll refund it.
- Outside those windows: ask anyway. We're two people, not a policy engine, and we'd rather you feel fine about it than hold onto eight dollars.
- Either way, cancel first so you aren't billed again while we sort it out.
Refunds go back to the card that paid, usually within 5–10 business days depending on your bank. Email hello@dwellthehouseledger.com with the email address on the account.
Getting your data out
Settings → "Download house-ledger.zip" gives you a PDF of your whole house plus every file you've uploaded. It works on the free plan too, and it works after you cancel. We don't hold your records hostage.
Deleting your account
Settings → Delete account, or the ⋯ menu in the app. It cancels any subscription, then removes your account, your houses, and every record, photo, and document in them. It's immediate and we can't undo it, so export first if you want a copy. Backups age out within 14 days.
What you agree not to do
- Upload anything illegal, or anything you don't have the right to store.
- Try to reach another customer's account or data.
- Attack, overload, or scrape the service.
- Resell dwell as your own product.
If an account does one of these we may suspend it. If we suspend an account that paid, we refund the unused part.
The honest limitations
dwell is provided as-is. We work hard to keep it running and backed up, but we can't promise it will never be down or never lose data — no one honestly can. dwell is not a substitute for your only copy of anything important. Keep original deeds, warranties, and legal documents where you'd keep them anyway. Use the export.
The AI features (photo scanning, room mockups, manual lookup) are helpful guesses, not facts. Check anything that matters — especially model numbers, serial numbers, and anything you'd hand to an insurer.
If something goes wrong and it's our fault, what we owe you is capped at what you paid us in the last 12 months. That's the standard limit for software at this price, and we'd rather state it plainly than bury it.
Changes to these terms
If we change anything that affects you materially, we'll email you before it takes effect. The date at the top always says when this page last changed.
